Lady Voluptuous Lyra

Lady Voluptuous Lyra

Anyone who is dizzy about vintage inspired plus size fashion will have heard of Lady Voluptuous – it has fast become a staple of some many women’s wardrobes and offers such beautiful dresses in an array of gorgeous fabrics.

The Lyra was instantly one of my favourites – a classic 40s wrap shape with a cinched waist and flowing skirt makes it one of those effortlessly easy dresses to throw on and feel fabulous even when you’re feeling a little low.

Despite this, it’s taken me a long time to cave and buy a Lyra.  I have a wardrobe full of dresses made from the same cut and just didn’t feel I could justify buying yet another.  A flash sale and the addition of a long sleeve finally made me cave and I wasn’t disappointed.

Made from a lightweight jersey the dress has a beautiful flow and movement to the skirt.  The only downside of this is that the dress isn’t the warmest – so I’ve worn it here with a smoothing slip beneath and my knee-high boots for added protection from the cold.

I feel there is something very 70s about my style here – I’m potentially going to need to buy a big floppy hat to complete the look.

I’m wearing the size 16 and it fits me very well – the jersey has a fair amount of give and stretch in it to allow for my top heavy half whilst still cinching at the waist.  Unfortunately, I find the arms very baggy and not quite long enough for me.  I would have much preferred a more fitted arm that reached to the wrist.

The skirt on this dress is quite long and sits an inch or two below the knee.  I really love a midi skirt and feel it really elevates a dress from pretty cute to stylish.

The Lyra retails at £50 but Lady V London frequently have sales on.  At the time of writing the dress is on sale for just £25 but is very limited on the remaining sizes so if you want one of these you will have to be very quick!

I honestly believe the dress is worth the money and I can see myself wearing this a lot through winter and through to spring.  It will be great for all the travels I have coming up as I can throw it in a suitcase and not worry about it creasing during the journey  – it will definitely be coming to San Francisco with me in Spring.

You look great in the Lyra, fab colour on you. I have 3 Lady V , two which I wear a net petticoat under and swish about😀 And in the recent sale bought the Ursula, a fitted bombshell wiggle dress. Love em!

I have shyed away from the Lyra for similar reasons – I have a Monroe Knows dress in black which is a very similar style. But the colour of this on you is so vibrant! This would be a perfect dress for work, although I think I’d need a modesty panel to hide the boobies! 😄

You look amazing and you’ve just reminded me how much I love red and brown together. It’s a very 70s combo and I love that. I also need to get me a Lyra soon. xx
