I ordered this dress a few weeks ago and fell head over heels in love with it.

I’m a tiny bit retro obsessed at the moment – I’m loving all the 60s shapes that are appearing in fashion collections at the moment.  Short hems are always good in my eyes (cause I love my pins), throw in groovy patterns or fancy embroidery and I get a little bit weak at the knees.

When I saw this Simple Be Lace Dress in all it’s monochrome glory – I just had to have it.

I have nowhere to wear it (I never go out out anymore) and it’s fast approaching summer so I will likely lose all love of monochrome and begin to live in pastels very shortly!

But the bold daisy print embroidered onto a sheer fabric is so very striking – the high neck collar is demure which contrast sharply with the microscopic length  of the dress – this is definitely a dress for showing off your legs!

The natural cut of the dress is very straight which isn’t a style that I feel entirely comfortable in – especially as I have such a huge hip-waist-chest ratio.  I nipped the dress in with a wide belt to create more of the silhouette that I prefer to see myself in.

Maybe one day I will be confident enough to wear a dress that doesn’t define my waist – but I’m not quite there yet.

Now, given that we have had snow and hail this weekend, I’ve styled this dress for colder weather.  My go-to opaque tights and simple black courts contrast really well with the sheer sleeves.

For warmer climates, I can see myself dressing down a little with bare legs and nude shoes.  I’m even debating pairing it with my new nude coloured brogues and side satchel for day wear (but that may be a tiny bit much for traipsing the streets of Oxford).

The dress is priced at £49 so isn’t one of the cheaper dresses on the market but it is made very well and … well, it’s stunning!

I’m wearing a size 18 which, true to size, fit beautifully everywhere but my waist which is swamped.  I often wear a size 16 in Simply Be’s own range but the shoulders on this would have come up small so, if like me you’re between sizes and have broad shoulders, do size up.
