My style is just a little fixed. The classic kinda style of timeless shapes, well structured items and, more often than not, monochromatic. I’ve been called a fat Kate Middleton with a little bit of added spice – I don’t think that’s too far off the mark.
Lately, however, I’ve been wanting to break free – ditch the 50’s skirt from something a little free-er … a little bit more bohemian. I think it’s something to do with the warm weather we’ve been having … it’s making me want to walk around bare foot in the flimsiest of maxi dress, perhaps with flowers in my hair.
I’ve tried on some really beautiful flowing paisley numbers but don’t feel quite me. I’m a little too structured for the full bohemian affair. This rust colour Boohoo Plus swing dress, however, is stepping slightly out of my comfort zone into the realms of relaxed, carefree dressing without being a fraud to my own style!
This rust coloured swing dress is made from a very lightweight jersey dress with an elasticated empire waist line and overtly-low cut out neckline.
It’s a size 18 and fits very well, mostly as the jersey has some stretch to it – Boohoo does come up rather small and the other two dresses I ordered only just fitted my width. My length, however, was nowhere near and you could actually see bum cheek with one.
When worn with a big floppy hat, simple brogues, and stacked golden bangles this dress is very 7os boho … especially with that neckline.
Now, about that neckline … I really struggled finding a bra to wear with that doesn’t show. In these pictures I’m wearing the Curvy Kate Atomic bra (reviewed here) which does have a deep plunge. However, I had to let the straps down to give my boobs a lower carriage (and less cleavage) otherwise there was a flash of pink next to the rust.
The dress is, true to Boohoo form, priced incredibly reasonably coming in at a meagre £18 – this makes it perfect for style experimentation and I am intrigued to see how much wear I do get out of this dress, especially with the heatwave due to end soon (queue sad sad tears).
Don’t get me wrong, there is a lot I like about this dress and I think it’s going to get a fair few outings but, knowing me, as soon as the sun disappears I will be reverting back to my leather pencil skirts and structured dresses.
