The military trend is always big this kind of year and Elvi has really hit it on the head with this beautiful Military Trench Coat* with large brass buckles and a sleek, waxed-feel, deep black material.
The coat feels incredibly luxurious – the material is warm and well made with a slightly waxy texture, the coat is fully lined in the most glamorous of dark tartan lining, and the gold buttons contrast beautiful with the dark, inky colour.
I feel kinda like a Soviet spy in this coat and have style is accordingly – with my favourite over-the-knee boots from River Island and a simple sweater dress from V by Very.
The buttons are purely ornamental and the coat on closes by wrapping it around you with the belt. If I had known, I’d have sized up so make sure the coat really does wrap all the way around me – although the size 18 fits me fairly perfectly and the shoulders may be too wide in the 20. That said, pulling the belt tight around me does stop the coat from splitting open at any time.
I particularly love this coat from behind when done up, the cape effect back and cinched waist above a slightly flared skirt gives a truly stunning shape.
The coat is not a budget option, priced at £149 but it is a timeless investment piece – the type you will pull out of your wardrobe year after year and always receive compliments when wearing it. I was gifted this item, but probably would have bought it myself anyway.
Now, would it be too much to add a trilby to complete the Russian spy look?
