Mother’s Day is on Sunday – how did it sneak up so fast? I swear this year is moving far too quickly for my liking and I can’t get my head around the fast approach of Easter. I feel like Christmas was only 2 minutes ago and I have so many plans for this year that are yet to be realised.
My Mum and I are heading off to Seville next week – the coincidence of Mother’s Day landing a few days before is sheer fluke and we’ve decided to celebrate Mother’s Day by finding somewhere extra special for lunch or dinner on of the nights. This is one of my favourite ways to celebrate mother’s day, spending some quality time together alone. We both live such busy lives that we really don’t get to see each other enough and when we do we’re often surrounded by husbands, boyfriends, friends and relatives. As lovely as this, it doesn’t always allow for quality time sat nattering together.
Although time spent together is always my preference, its not always possible. Life gets in the way of events best laid plans and sometimes, a little gift is needed. In cases like these, I can always recommend three fail-safe presents: pearls, make up, and stationary.
Pearls are something that I’ve always had an affinity with and my mother is the same. A beautiful pair of pearl earrings always goes down well and will last forever. Recently, fellow plus size blogger and all round lovely person Lottie L’Amour and her stunning girl Emma have launched Pearl Babes – a pearl popping party service that allows you to buy a pearl, still safely encased in it’s oyster shell, and have it opened for a surprise reveal during one of their amazingly charming Facebook live parties. The pearl is then turned into a jewellery design of your choice and will arrive at your door a week or two later.
It’s a delightful service and you can sit with a tipple of your choice (mine would be large G&T) in the company of your dearest mum to watch the Pearl Babes unveil the pearl of choice.
I love putting together hampers of beauty products for my Mum. For years these have been filed with some of my favourite high street products, individually wrapped and contained in a beautiful storage box or make up bag. Lately, I’ve been transitioning my make up and beauty regime to only include cruelty free products (I’ll probably write another post about this once the transition is complete).
I won’t lie, I’ve beens struggling to find affordable new brands to try that fit this ethos but the Pip Box beauty subscription service is entirely cruelty free and lets you try lots of handy products. I think it would make a great present for any Mum as it gives her the option to try out many ethical little products.
Stationary is a new foundling love of mine and I think my Mum would love it too. She installed a creativity in me from an early age and I love sketching, scrapbooking and journalling.
Only opened this week, Sarah Loves Paper has some really beautiful note books the contain a mix of papers types that make them perfect for sketching and writing alike. Some even come with grids which will be great for geometric designs. I may have bought the Write journal above for myself as a travel journal/sketch book but I feel my Mum would love some of these to be filled with her own creativity.
Do you have any suggestions for Mother’s Day Gifts? I’d love it if you could list some independent retailer options in the comments!
