I’m a big bikini fan, as regular readers may have already guessed from last week’s Swimwear Look Book that really did consist mostly of scanty two pieces.
For me, support and minimal tan lines is key when choosing a bikini. I love water sports (even if I am awful at them) and therefore I need my bikinis with as much bra support as my daily under garments. Because of this, I tend to go for well structured bras from brands I know and mid or high waisted knickers that can be supportive whilst being active, and rolled down to reveal as much flesh as possible when lounging by the side of the pool.
The Curvy Kate Hi Voltage* set is just such a bikini. It is a plunge, underwired bikini top with wide straps and side panels. The cups are moulded and overlaid with a mesh chevron design fabric.
I’m wearing the 36GG and it is a perfect fit, encasing all my breast tissue and creating a rounded and uplifted shape.
The Strappy Mini Brief is made from a complimentary chevron fabric with a high-waisted strapping detail. I was instantly drawn to the cut out details which give a nod to the lingerie draw opposed to the traditional covered bikini range that has been so often fed to us larger girls.
It is really refreshing to see design like this seeping into the bikini market this year and I hoping next sees the boundaries pushed even further – perhaps strapping on the bikini tops too?
I’m wearing the briefs in an 18 and they fit very well – they have a little stretch to the material but nothing substantial so size up if you’re between sizes.
I understand the strapping detail is a little seductive and perhaps for the more overt of us. Thankfully, the ladies at Curvy Kate have also designed a version of the brief that still gives a nod to strapping with a sheer mesh panel siting where the cut-out section lies on the pictured brief.
And the delightful robe? That is from ASOS and I’m wearing the size 18 which fits fairly perfectly. It is relatively relaxed in size across the chest and hips but has little give at the waist. It is also available in black which will look phenomenal with a more vibrant bikini underneath.
Don’t forget to check out my look book for plenty more bikini inspiration, and to check out the reviews that will follow in the coming weeks.
Now all I have to do is wait for the sunshine to come back!
