Summer is well and truly here. Haven’t we had a great run?
I have spent so much time outside, playing in the sunshine. Moving to Devon has felt like a dream. It truly is a slower place of life, with more time spent doing the things I love most – walking the dog, relaxing by water, evenings spent BBQing with friends. Moving here is definitely the best thing I’ve ever done and I have no regrets!
I am definitely feeling more relaxed, more zen, more me! And I think that is influencing my style with my summer capsule wardrobe reflecting those easy, laid back vibes that I’m feeling.
The Summer Capsule
I started playing with a capsule wardrobe over winter and found it so refreshing. Not having to worry about what I was going to wear on a morning made my life so much simpler and, somehow, I feel like my dressing got more expressive, showed more personality. Because of this, I decided to carry it through into summer – choosing a series of items that I know work together and that I feel great in. you can read all my hints and tips for developing a capsule wardrobe here.
It came to 27 items of clothing – my real summer holiday clothes are packed away and don’t count. How often do we wear a bikini in the UK?
Neither do my ‘going-out clothes’ those formal numbers that only get worn about once a year. My Coast Curve jumpsuit falls under this category – it is not something that I would wear daily or even out for dinner. It is reserved for special events; weddings, balls, formals – and so not part of my capsule.
I also haven’t included my shoes – which consists mostly of trainers and some leather sandals. Or my bags, which maxes out at a backpack and an across body bag. I seem to have become minimalistic in most things!
Full disclosure, the majority of my summer capsule wardrobe is made from items from previous seasons. There are items drawn from my winter capsule – my patterned skirt that I wore with tights and boots for winter is now perfect for bare legs and a simple shirt. My statement jackets, a staple of my wardrobe all year round, are great transitional pieces and also perfect for the unpredictable weather we have here in the UK.
Whats in my Summer Capsule Wardrobe?
And if there is something missing? Well, I wouldn’t mind a nice printed wrap dress to throw on with sandals for those sunny summer days but I’m yet to find the perfect piece so, for now, this is it!
