It’s the season for amazing denim. But with so many options out there, how do you navigate styling jeans and other denim items?
I practically live in denim. It really is the most versatile of materials and, come autumn, a heavier denim is perfect for seeing you through the sudden drop in temperature.
I’m a big believer that every wardrobe (no matter what the season) needs some great denim and there are three denim items that are perfect for seeing you through the autumnal transition and into party season. Thankfully, if you’re in the market for some new denim, then Very.co.uk have got all the latest fits, cuts and washes on trend this season. They’re even stocking Topshop denim ranges with have long been a favourite with the straight size fashion hordes – sadly, I haven’t fitted into them since turning 16 but Topshop denim was my teenage favourite.
Mom jeans have long been a staple in my wardrobe. They’re naturally high waisted with a fitted cut across the hip before becoming a more relaxed fit. I find them the comfiest of fits and they’re my go-to denim for day wear – especially when rolled up and worn with trainers.
For autumn, I wear my Mom jeans with tucked-in jumpers to maintain that high-waist, leg-elongating shape. Add a longline wax jacket or a chunky biker jacket for the ultimate in relaxed feels.
But Mom Jeans also look great for a night out and can be carried forward for those Christmas cocktails (sorry to drop the C-bomb but it really isn’t that far away). I love to pair my Mom jeans with a silk camisole and a sharp blazer or military jacket. Don’t forget to keep the jeans cropped (even if it means folding them up) and your heels slender.

Skinny jeans aren’t going anywhere. I like mine high-waisted with an ankle grazer cut. I also like them stretchy to allow for a little late-night boogie.
For day or night, my go-to look for skinny jeans is an ankle boot, a fitted top, and a longline blazer. I love to add texture to my skinny jeans with a velvet or brocade blazer – the type that is opulent enough to sit and stroke. Think turn of the century smoking jackets – that is my dream.
For day time autumnal dressing, I stick to slim fitted polo necks or long sleeve t-shirts. For evening, I pair my skinny jeans with a sheer or lace body. Certainly don’t be afraid to play with lingerie as outer wear – a trend that is sure to continue into this year’s Christmas party look books.

Not all denim needs to be jeans. Dungarees are a new love for me. They are the epitome of laid back style and oh-so-comfortable dressing. They are also perfect for layering.
Buying an oversized pair of dungarees will really aid to the relaxed look and so I sized up on mine. Pair the oversized look with a skinny fitted t-shirt or polo neck underneath. A super snuggly teddy coat really completes the look. The look works just as well with a dungaree dress, opaque tights, and Dr. Martins.
I hope this have given you a little inspiration on how to wear denim this Autumn! Which is your favourite denim look?
