When it comes to buying a plus size party dress, we too often get trapped by in the moment trends. So how do we navigate the party season without buying a disposable dress?
We all love to get dressed up, right? To throw on a party dress and feel like a million dollars. Add some hot curls and red lips then I’m in my element. This is even more the case as the Christmas party season arrives and the event invites come flooding in. Even if you don’t have a fancy ball to attend, Christmas day itself is the perfect excuse for throwing on a fancy frock. Although, in after a full Christmas dinner, the PJs (and elastic waist bands) come swiftly out!
But it’s not just at Christmas that we love to dress up so why not make sure that the party dress you buy this year will see you through to next.
The Wrap Dress
A wrap dress is never going to go out of style. It’s a true timeless classic that can be worn season through season. This Pink Clove metallic orange wrap dress with dark inky florals makes for the perfect party dress. The colour positively shines beneath the fairy lights whilst the slinky material means that the dress is light enough to wear all year round. The sway of the midi-skirt is perfect for dancing – Ginger Rogers would be envious of the swish when twirling in this dress.
For the Christmas party look, I’ve paired the dress with neutral toned heels that lets the vibrant metallic orange do all the talking. If neutral heels aren’t your thing, then picking heels in the colour of the dark, inky florals would compliment this perfect – navy heels would look amazing. The dress also comes in several other colour-ways which I’ve linked below. All would work beautifully with a red lip and some sparkly jewellery!
And if you want to wear this dress for a less dressy occasion? Simply layer with jumpers or polo neck and throw on a pair of over-the-knee boots.
Sparkles and Sequins
Think Christmas parties, think sparkles and sequins!
This Lace and Bead embellished crop top is the perfect addition to your party wear wardrobe. It is heavily embellished with sparkling gold beads that shimmer under fairy lights. It feels like quality – it is heavy without weighing down your shoulders and I’m yet to shed a single bead. It is cape-like in its construction, closed by two hook and eye clips at the rear, leaving your lower back exposed. I love an outfit that reveals a bit of back!
I’ve styled this top over a simple slip dress – this is actually a vintage piece but slip dresses/skirts are very on trend at the moment and set to stay. I love the contrast of the silky, lightweight material agains the heavy embellishment of the top. The top could also easily be worn with jeans or high-waisted trousers for a more relaxed party look.
And after Christmas? How amazing would this top look for summer festivals, birthday parties and even a wedding if you swiped the black slip for a pastel or jewelled tone? A slip skirt/dress can be layered with jumpers and boots for winter wear, or a simple t-shirt for summer casuals.
I’m a strong believer that everyone needs a classic black dress in their wardrobe. They can be pulled out whenever a fancy occasion arrives and, with a little inventive styling, they are easy to transform with each new wear.
This full length, pleated body con dress from Pink Clove is the perfect canvas for reinventing with each wear. Just think about adding an embellished belt or a beaded cape. You could also stack bangles over the sleeves or add a statement necklace.
But the great thing about a classic black dress like this? You really don’t need to do anything to it. Here, I’ve barely styled it – letting the simple contours speak for themselves. I have, however, added a pop of colour with the red heels to match my lipstick – it is Christmas after all.
