How to style mom jeans across the seasons

Mom jeans. The epitome of laid back style. Perfect all year round but they really come into their own come the warmer months. But how do you style mom jeans all year round?

Mom jeans, for me, are about effortless style. They’re high waisted, booty lifting, and relaxed legged. There is something slightly vintage to them. The cut is reminiscent of the 90s especially pale blue washed denim versions (which are my own personal favourite). They’re just easy wearing – and I’m all about the ease of wear.

As you can probably tell, I’m a little fanatical about mom jeans. I place them as essential in any wardrobe and they appear, pride of place, in my capsule wardrobes season after season. For the past two years they have been my most worn item and nothing is set to change this year.

And it’s not just for an ease of wear that has made me fall for them. It’s their versatility. And this is how I love to style them across the seasons.

Wearing mom jeans in autumn/winter

Many people think mom jeans are the preserve of warmer months. Worn with a simple tee shirt and coordinating sneakers. But they look equally amazing with knitwear. Tuck a snuggly jumper into the high-waisted style creates a chic laid back look. Adding ankle boots, with just a bit of ankle showing below the hem, keeps the look modern. Layering a blazer or tailored winter coat adds warmth and gives a more tailored feel to an outfit.

Of course, a wooly jumper and sneakers works just as well. As does layering a polo neck beneath more structured items like a shirt or a blazer when you want a more sophisticated look that retains warmth. I particularly love wearing a slim fitted body with black or dark indigo mom jeans and a cropped blazer. Add staggering heels for a night out on the town.

The warmer months are really when casual denim comes into its own. I love to pair my mom jeans with an oversized shirt, tied at the waist or tucked into the waistband. Pairing them with a fitted crop top works just as well and gives a real nod to 90s styling. For chillier transitional days, I like to pair them with a simple knitted cardigan and leather loafers for real comfort dressing.

My personal favourite is pairing a light wash, ripped style with a statement spring jacket; think military or brocade styles. Top the look with wayfarer sunglasses and open toe sandals for a real laid back, vibe. Keep your under layers simple with a basic t-shirt or a fitted body in a neutral colour.

I’ve not worn denim in years. It’s great how you can style it differently to create a range of looks for different occasions. I’ll have to dig out some from the wardrobe or get some new ones in.

I don’t own a pair of mum jeans but I really want to give them a go and see how they suit my figure. I generally stick to skinny jeans and that’s my lot x

I really need to get myself some new jeans. I haven’t got any that fit me anymore. I am more of a leggings and joggers kinda girl.
